SCALE is committed to highlighting the successes and creative adaptations undertaken by the agriculture, natural resource management (NRM), and alternative livelihoods implementing community
SCALE strives to recognize the accomplishments and skills of practitioners working in agriculture, natural resource management (NRM), and alternative livelihoods-related activities around the world. Below are two such initiatives showcasing practitioners who are creatively adapting their programming to respond to COVID-19 and facilitating events, trainings, and more with exceptional skill.
As COVID-19 spread around the globe, programs faced unprecedented challenges to project implementation. In light of these challenges, humanitarians were forced to innovate how they deliver critical aid and programming. The SCALE Creative Adaptation Award highlights the most creative of these innovations from partners implementing USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA)-funded emergency and development activities, as well as those working on other donor-funded programs that have relevance to the food security implementing community.
Four of the strongest adaptations from programs in the agriculture, NRM, and alternative livelihoods sectors are highlighted in our Creative Adaptation Award video, with the winning adaptation from the CARE-led Feed the Future Ethiopia - Livelihoods for Resilience Activity detailed in a Technical Brief. An Honorable Mentions gallery highlights innovations not ultimately chosen as finalists for the award but nonetheless creative and worth sharing with the broader food security community.
The SCALE Facilitators of the Year Initiative recognizes and celebrates program staff who are facilitating agriculture, NRM, or alternative livelihoods-related activities around the world. We asked our community to nominate individuals working on BHA-funded emergency or development activities who use engaging and participatory facilitation techniques, respectfully and actively listen to workshop participants, and effectively draw on participants’ experiences. These exceptional facilitators comprise the SCALE Facilitators of the Year 2020 Cohort (click here to access the French version).
